The West Palm Beach Police Department is investigating the death of a man. On Sunday, Ronaldo Hernandez-Velasquez, 27, of Riviera Beach was struck and killed by an SUV. According to the police department, the victim was walking west to east across Broadway and 40th Street when he was struck by a southbound SUV. JACKSON, Miss. —Police are searching for a homicide suspect who once worked as an officer with the Jackson Police Department.JPD was called early Tuesday morning to the scene at Tapestry Northridge Apartments off Parkway Drive near Old Canton Road. Crime scene tape lined the scene, and there was a heavy police presence. Family members of the victim identified him as Carlos Collins. They said they came from Yazoo County after hearing about the incident. The family said Collins had filed several restraining orders against the alleged suspect.Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said Collins died after he was shot multiple times. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade confirmed that investigators are looking for Marcus Johnson in connection with the killing. Wade said Johnson, 33, worked for JPD for eight months."He was separated from JPD pending disciplinary actions leading up to his immediate termination," JPD said in a news release.Wade said Johnson resigned on Sept. 10, 2013, before he was terminated.Family members said Collins, 25, was a registered nurse, like his mother, Ashla Hudson."When he graduated high school, he wanted to follow in my footsteps," Hudson said. A military-like unit of the Broward Sheriff’s Office entered a two-bedroom apartment in Dania Beach to arrest Anthony Cruz, a suspect in a child sexual exploitation case. There were two others with Cruz, 40, in the Danians complex apartment near East Dania Beach Boulevard and Southeast Fifth Avenue — and about a mile from an elementary school. Deputies had a search warrant and found Cruz’s Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone on his bed with more than 10 images of child sex abuse victims as young as 4 years old, according to the BSO arrest report. “I also located additional files of child pornography in a search warrant return for the defendant’s Kik account,” BSO Detective Christopher DePelisi wrote in the report about the Kik instant messaging mobile app, The child sex abuse images associated with Cruz’s Kik account were of both boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 years old, DePelisi reported, according to the arrest report. MediaLab.AI, a California-based digital media company, alerted the National Center For Missing And Exploited Children about the “hwd28th” Kik account registered under the “HollywoodHug360@aol.com” e-mail. The center notified law enforcement. “Through legal process and additional intelligence, I was able to identify and locate the defendant,” DePelisi wrote in his report. BSO correctional deputies booked Cruz on Thursday at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale and he appeared in bond court on Friday.
