2025-03-31Mac iMac (PPC) Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. Hi, everyone. I'm having a problem with the Flurry screen saver on my iMac. There are several jittery lines on the screen when the flurry changes colors. Is this normal? Posted on Aug 27, 2005 8:35 PM Aug 27, 2005 8:45 PM in response to Daniel Staten Hi Daniel, What you are seeing is called "screen tearing". It is a result of the graphics card not syncing the image. It appears to be a problem with the radeon 9600 and possibly other radeon graphics cards. Currently there is no real fix for the screensaver, but if you experience it while playing games you can either enable "vsync" in the graphics option in the game or enable it with ATI Displays which can be downloaded here . of 1 Lines with Flurry
2025-04-21Image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifI have just discovered how to get a blank 'screen saver' whilst installing the Flurry beta.I already had Flurry selected as my current screen saver. As i didn't know how 'stable' the beta was & didn't want to 'loose' the original I compressed it with stuffit (leaving a file named 'Flurry.saver.sit'). I then copied across to Flury beta (renaming it to 'Flurry beta.saver'). on activating the screen saver (via a hot corner), all that appeared was a blank screen. Add bookmark #19 This version is freakin' fast as Hell. Aight, it's called "iX Xirtam"It came in a group of savers (iX BabelBloX, iX Planets, iX Qix, iX Qix Triangle, iX Spline, iX WanderingPolygon), all of which have "iX" in the name. Maybe you could search for that on VT and find it.It's a pretty good screensaver. Customize the color of the code, speed of it falling, size, how many spinners, and maybe a couple of more things (trace phone #). 2025-04-06Add bookmark #1 Every few months or so, I go hunting for new screensavers...well 'hunting' may be a strong word for hitting versiontracker and typing in 'screen saver' but I digress...Today i was surprised to see several screens worth of results from my search. I downloaded a few and found some very nice ones..the best of which is called Euphoria, it's up there with Flurry only a lot more customizable (although it's in beta so not everything works, it helps to close and reopen System Preferences to get it to accept settings). This has so many options, it seems more like several screen savers in one. From simple 3D warping meshes, to what roughly resemble moving Kandinsky paintings.Another fun one that i've had for a while is called 'planets' - it's really very simple looking - it's a 2D gravity simulator, in which circles of various sizes roam around the screen exerting gravitational influence on each other, when two collide, they assume the mass of both combined. When one reaches a critical mass, it explodes (nova?) into tiny bits that then start the process over again. On rare occasion I've come home to find two circles locked in orbit.Maze is a ressurection of an old screen saver that draws a maze (of definable complexity), defines a start and end point, and then shows you in real time as it tries to solve the maze. It's almost frightening to see the speed at which it tries out various paths. With the right settings, Osirus can be a really cool screensaver with a future-tech aesthetic. It looks like something you might see as a screensaver in a near-future sci-fi movie. At first i was disappointed, but I tweaked the settings until I got something nice.Abstract Motion, while completely devoid of configuration options, is a nice simple saver. Dark lines slowly drift around the screen with areas of color between them, which slowly cycle through color-space. If Euphoria can look like a Kandinsky, Abstract Motion looks like Mondiran on drugs.[This message was edited by FreakTornado on June 30, 2002 at 14:34.] Xyzzy Ars Tribunus
