It is no secret that my blogging platform of choice is Ghost. For the past two years, I have been using Ulysses for all my writing needs but lately, Ulysses is predominately used for MereCivilian. However, each year, I seek non-subscription based alternatives. I am finding that my list of subscriptions is forever growing. Therefore, I go through exercises like this where I scrutinize and evaluate my subscription apps. Today, its Ulysses’s turn. Spoiler Alert, I couldn’t find an alternative and as such renewed my subscription for another year. The closest alternative is iA Writer. What Ulysses can do, that iA Writer does not?Drag and drop images: it has become muscle memory for me to drag images from the Photos app to Ulysses. iA Writer does not support this.Publish on MereCivilian Blog: iA Writer uploads the article as draft. There are no other options. Meanwhile Ulysses provides: – Title – Schedule post – Post image – Post URL – Add Tags: retrieves all existing tags from website – Except: – Action: open Ghost or do nothing The following image shows what Ulysses does:Ulysses publish screenHandling Hyperlinks: As evident by the two images below, iA Writer shows the actual links while Ulysses hides it. Visually, I prefer Ulysses in this regard as it keeps my writing clean. iA Writer, ironically feels cluttered.Left: iA Writer Right: Ulysses Observe how iA Writer shows the complete Ghost link: while Ulysses does notI accept the above may not be deal breakers for some but each time, I switch to iA Writer, I miss these specific features. These are first world problems because, had I not used Ulysses previously, iA Writer would perfectly suit my needs.Perhaps, next year there may be an alternative. Until then, I gladly pay for Ulysses and as such, has earned my subscription.. ULYSSES TEXT EDITOR HOW TO ULYSSES TEXT EDITOR UPDATE Also, you’ll learn about automatic backup. To. Blog; 20 . Answer Comment on Ulysses’ unquenchable thirst for knowledge and adventure.Or, How does Ulysses represent the Victorian spirit in “Ulysses”? Alfred Lord Tennyson’s (1809-1892) poem “Ulysses,” written in 1833, presents the Greek hero Ulysses as a figure of boundless curiosity and determination. Ulysses’ unquenchable thirst for knowledge and adventure makes him a compelling character. Ulysses’s restless spirit is a symbol of the Victorian ideals of progress and exploration. Even in his old age, Ulysses is unwilling to settle into a quiet life. He sets sail to keep learning and exploring. Below, we will understand Ulysses’ unquenchable thirst for knowledge and adventure. The Desire for Endless Exploration: When the poem begins, Ulysses is agitated and discontent in Ithaca. He is restless for adventure. Ulysses feels “idle,” even though he rules as king. Though he is a king and has all the comforts of home, he feels trapped. Ulysses recognizes that the quest for new experiences and new knowledge defines a meaningful life.It little profits that an idle kingThis line shows his discontent with a life of inactivity. He believes his true identity is that of an explorer, not a ruler. This thirst for adventure and knowledge drives him to seek out the “untravell’d world.” This pursuit symbolizes the Victorian interest in uncovering new lands and ideas.Knowledge as an Everlasting Quest: For Ulysses, learning is an endless journey. Ulysses says he wantsTo follow knowledge like a sinking star, Beyond the utmost bound of human thought. This line shows his determination to learn all he can, no matter how far he has to go. Ulysses believes that life is about seeking wisdom and understanding the unknown. His attitude reflects the Victorian spirit, which was also driven by a desire for knowledge, scientific discovery, and self-improvement. The Victorians valued education, hard work, and progress. All of these are embodied in Ulysses’ character.Resisting the Limitations of Age: Despite his old age, Ulysses refuses to accept the idea of simply sitting idly. He compares himself to a sword left to rust. It shows his belief that life without action and purpose is meaningless. Ulysses insists thatOld age hath yet his honour and his toil;It means that even in old age, one can achieve something honorable. This is a powerful reflection of the Victorian ideal. Rather than giving in (surrendering) to time or weakness, Ulysses chooses to continue seeking out new challenges. He declares,I cannot rest from travel: I will drink Life to the lees:…Inspiring His Crew with a Final Adventure: In the closing lines, Ulysses addresses his loyal crew. He urges them to join him on one last voyage. He encourages them:To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. This famous final line of the poem embodies the. Type "COPY D: C:\WS-FILES". This will copy all files on the drive to the folder you created on the C: driveTesting wordstarNavigate to the WS-FILES folder by typing "C:" and then "CD WS-FILES". Then, simply type "WS". This will run the WS.EXE file. You are now running Wordstar! You can test this program by creating a file and seeing if it shows up -- it will be in the WS-FILES directory. Now you can copy it to your D: drive (the USB stick), and putting the USB drive in your main computer. Congratulations! You did it!Converting between Wordstar and txt files. If you try to open a .WS file in any text editor, it will return a bunch of gibberish. This is because WS uses a proprietary file format. However, the document can be converted to intelligible text. I have provided a link to a page that details how to create a perl conversion script. You can copy the text of the script into a .pl file yourself, which is the safest possible option, or you can just download it from them, whichever you prefer. Place the script in the folder your .WS file is in, and then open the folder in command prompt and type "perl convert.pl". It's that simple.Congratulations! The modern human is spoiled. They are so used to modern comforts: spell check, fonts, formatting text, text size, paper size. You are superior to the rest of mankind; you have transcended the need for such things. Some people testify to the glory of Scrivener, or Ulysses, or Focuswriter. But you know the truth. There is an allure to Wordstar that cannot be replicated by any modern software. This allure calls to me like a siren song, enraptures me, and it now calls to you, too. Enjoy your new machine.
